RTA Upgrades Nol Ticketing to Cloud-Based Account Architecture

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed Phase 2 of its AED 550 million central ticketing overhaul. The new system transitions Nol from traditional on-card cryptographic balances to real-time Account-Based Ticketing (ABT). This architecture paves the way for direct contactless EMV bank card tapping (Phase 3 targeted for early 2027) while integrating with the UAE national Jaywan domestic payment scheme. Commuters are advised that existing physical Silver and Gold Nol cards continue to operate normally with full forward compatibility.

Digital QR Code Single and Day-Pass Tickets Now Live Across Metro Network

Passengers across Dubai Metro Red and Green lines can now bypass physical ticket vending machines entirely. Optical barcode scanners installed on the fare gates at all 53 active metro stations and 11 tram stations now read dynamic QR tickets generated directly within the official RTA apps (S'hail and nol Pay). Payment is processed via digital credit cards, Apple Pay, or Samsung Wallet, generating an encrypted QR code that validly activates the turnstiles.
