How Dubai Metro Stations Are Organized
Dubai Metro stations are classified into distinct architectural typologies reflecting their location and ridership demands:
- Type 1: Elevated Viaduct Stations (e.g. Burj Khalifa / Dubai Mall, DMCC) — Iconic curved shell canopy structures situated on elevated concrete viaducts above Sheikh Zayed Road.
- Type 2: Underground Interchange Stations (Union, BurJuman) — Massive subterranean concourses spanning up to 25,000 square meters, allowing level-transfer between the Red and Green lines.
- Naming Sponsorships: Many stations are named after corporate sponsors under RTA's commercial partnership model (such as ONPASSIVE, Sobha Realty, Equiti, and max). These names are updated periodically but station geographic codes (e.g., R25, R37) remain constant.
