Common Dubai Transit Questions

What is the best way to get around Dubai on a budget?

The Dubai Metro combined with the Dubai Tram and public feeder buses is the most economical way to get around Dubai. A Silver Nol Card costs AED 25 (with AED 19 credit) and provides rides starting from AED 3.00.

Can I tap a contactless credit card directly on the Dubai Metro turnstiles?

No. Direct open-loop credit card tapping at smart gates is currently scheduled for early 2027 under Phase 3 of RTA's Account-Based Ticketing upgrade. Today, you must use a Nol card or buy an app QR ticket via S'hail.

How much is the minimum Nol balance needed to enter the Dubai Metro?

You must have at least AED 7.50 on your Nol card to enter any metro station. If your balance is lower, the turnstile will not open.

Can two people share the same Nol card in Dubai?

No. Each commuter must possess and tap their own individual Nol card at entry and exit gates. Attempting to share a card incurs an AED 200 fine.
